This week we are going to get all of the keychains printed and start handing them out. We are first going to give them to Mr. Kilpatrick, Mr. Miller and Mr. Newell. Then to people in high stressful jobs, like in the Police Department and the Fire Department. We are going to ask them if we could ask them a couple of questions so we can write a small article about them and their jobs. We think that they need their day to be lightened up a little bit because they have very long days where they might not get a very big break or maybe not even one at all. We realized that the final presentation is coming up. That means that it’s crunch time to finish the whole project. We are pretty much done after we hand them out.

This past week we have continued our work on our 3-D printed objects. We have our finished model that we are going to use. We had to make the loop of the object bigger so we could use them for an actual keychain. The object itself had to be made bigger because there was no way that we could hook it on a keychain. So, the object was first an inch in diameter but now it’s an inch and half in diameter. We will hand all of these out to people in high stress jobs to try and make their life a little easier. We know that it can be difficult to keep a level head at sometimes. Even at school but in those jobs especially.
This week we didn’t move forward with anything for out project but this upcoming week we will surely start the making of our object. WE have talked to Mr. Short and he said we can go in any day during the week to use the 3D printer until 3 O’clock. We would really only have enough time to do this on a block day like Wednesday or Thursday though. I know that we really need to step up our game and get this project moving but we just haven’t. We are slacking and we have to stop it.
We didn’t get much accomplished with our project this past week but we did end up getting an Instagram account published. We thought that a good way to spread our project around is through social media. If you think about it, people nowadays get most if not all of their information about news through social media like Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. We made this account just to post pictures and post updates on our project, like pictures of handing out the objects or just us making the objects to hand out. We will use hashtags like #20time #spreadhappiness to spread the word about our profile and project. We thought about making a Twitter account but I don’t think we will end up making it.
I have a couple of new year’s resolutions. One of them is to make sure we get to work and work harder. We have kept saying that we are going to work on a day and then no one ends up staying and working. I don’t know what the other guys have going on but I personally have baseball pretty much everyday and it’s hard to find a lot of time. I will try to keep working on the website and everything else that needs to be worked on. The other resolution is to help keep the other guys accountable for themselves. As well as I need to do my work they need to do theirs. I would try to ask them to remember to work on different things and to stay after. Our whole group has been slacking and that needs to stop if we want to get our project finished.
We decided on our project because Wesley was actually joking around when we started brain storming new project ideas. He said “Why don’t we be mean to people in Walmart and see what happens?” At first we just kind of laughed at it but then we thought about it and then changed the idea into kind of doing a social experiment and being nice to just everyone. The only similarity to the original idea is the 3-D printer. We changed a lot of the project. We were going to make collars and prosthetics for dogs but we soon realized it was not a good idea. We were not getting anywhere with the project and so we decided to change it. I am glad we did because the project were are doing now will help more people than just the dogs without limbs and collars.
We still have a lot to accomplish in semester 2 and some in semester 1. Our goals are to make the prototype this semester or very early next semester. After we do that, we can then show it around and start making more to actually hand out to people. We can record how people respond if we start handing them out to people. We will actually get to start the prototype this Friday but I have no clue how long it will take to make it. Later in semester 2 we can ask some people to hand them out instead of us and they can see how people react to them instead of us. I don’t know everything that is in store for us and our project but I know we will have ups and downs but it will end up well.
This week we will be going to talk to the teacher with the 3-D printer. I hope that we can use the 3-D printer to make a sample of what we can do. I also want to set up a time frame to when we can use it. I don’t know exactly how much it will cost to make the items but I’m sure it won’t cost that much to produce them and it will be worth it because this project is going to be very interesting. We will first make the sample and post a picture of it here on our website. I hope the teacher will have an idea for the time frame that we get to use it. I think that this project will be a good study to look at on how people are going to react.
Alex, Wesley, Gavin and I have decided to change our idea and go a different route. We will still use the 3-D printer. We need to talk to the teacher with the 3-D printer because we don’t know exactly when we can use the printer. We know how important it is to be nice to people and that interactions with other people can change a day or a life. Our day in age just one wave or smile can change someone’s life because as sad as it people take their own life. That should never even cross someone’s mind but it comes up as an option for a lot of people. Especially teens because we all try to find where we fit in and even who we are. So I hope in this project we help others and overall make the school and the community a better place for all who live here.
In my group I have Wesley, Gavin and Alex. Our plan to carry out this year is to make 3-D printed collars and prosthetics. CMHS has a 3-D printer that we can use to make these products. We will first walk dogs to make the money for the supplies. Then we will make a sample collar that we can display on the website. It would be hard to find dog without a leg and for people to let us make their dogs custom legs. Which is why we had a backup plan to make collars too. I think that this project is going to be a good thing to do for the community. It could make the dog’s safer so if they escape they can locate them.
